Counselling Services

Welcome to my remote counselling services. I’m Gavin Reid MBACP, a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I’m here to offer you compassionate and professional support, wherever you are.

My APPROACH

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor with a person-centred approach at the core of my practice. I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and affirming space for individuals, with a special focus on LGBTQ+ clients.

With extensive experience working within LGBTQ+ communities, I understand the unique challenges that can arise, including stigma, shame, addiction, and the complexities of intimacy and connection. My approach integrates various therapeutic modalities, including, CBT, TA, GSRD and mindfulness techniques, to tailor support to each individual’s needs. However, my foundation remains person-centred—ensuring that therapy is led by you, at your pace, in a space where you feel heard, valued, and empowered.

Person Centred is a non-directive form of counselling, so I won’t be trying to tell you what to do or give you advice. Nobody knows you better than you know yourself, you are the expert on you, not me.

The way I like to explain it to clients, is that you have been dealt a hand of cards, each card represents a different aspect to your life.  You can decide which of those cards you’d like us to explore together, it might be one of them, overtime, it might be many of them. By talking about the cards together, this will hopefully enable you to play your best hand possible and live your best life.

There will be times when I will ask you questions, rephrase what you have said or sum things up, this is so that I can make sure that I am understanding you correctly.  I work in an open and transparent way, so if you feel that I might have missed something, or I have got something wrong, please let me know, because I’m learning about you and want to provide you with the best help I can.

I aim to get the right balance between supporting you and gently challenging you. I will check in with you from time to time to see if I’m getting this balance right.

Whether you’re completely new to therapy, reconnecting with it after a break, or if you’ve had a bad experience with it in the past, I’m here to offer you a safe non-judgemental space where you can be yourself and explore what is impacting you, so you can make sense of your world.

I work with all genders, sexualities and relationship types.  I am experienced in working with subjects such as depression, anxiety, shame, internalised homophobia/transphobia, coming out, chem sex, addiction, neuro diversity, low self-esteem, trauma and gender dysphoria.

I work remotely with clients from all over the UK.

The Modalities I use

Person Centred Therapy

Person Centred Therapy is a humanistic approach to therapy developed by Carl Rogers. At its core, it believes that every individual has the capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding when provided with the right conditions. Rather than offering advice or directing the conversation, the therapist offers a non-judgmental, empathetic, and genuine presence, creating a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely. This approach values your autonomy and trusts that you are the expert on your own life. Through a collaborative relationship, person-centred counselling helps you gain greater self-awareness, build self-esteem, and make meaningful changes at your own pace. It is particularly effective for individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-worth, or those simply seeking deeper self-understanding. The therapeutic process honours your individuality and encourages a journey toward greater personal authenticity and emotional well-being.

GSRD Therapy

Gender, sex, and relationship therapy (GSRD) is an emergent psychotherapy building on the affirmative traditions of relational and humanistic schools and harnessing some of the techniques of third-wave cognitive behavioural therapy, which can be especially effective with LGBTQIA+ clients. The approach is crucial in providing support, guidance, and healing to individuals navigating the complex landscape of identity, sexuality, and interpersonal connections. To address clients’ diverse needs effectively, I embrace a comprehensive approach incorporating the six core components. By committing to social justice, demonstrating cultural humility and competency, understanding the impact of oppression, adopting a trauma-informed approach, embracing contemporary sexological perspectives, and drawing on core GSRD theories, I help create a safe and inclusive environment for my clients. Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a structured, insightful approach to psychotherapy that explores how we communicate and relate to ourselves and others. Developed by Dr. Eric Berne, TA is based on the idea that we operate from three distinct ego states: Parent, Adult, and Child. These states influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in everyday interactions. By identifying patterns in these “transactions,” TA helps individuals understand unhelpful dynamics, improve communication, and develop healthier relationships. It also examines the life scripts we unconsciously adopt early in life—repetitive patterns or beliefs that can limit personal growth. Through increased awareness and practical tools, TA empowers you to make more conscious choices, resolve internal conflicts, and foster emotional well-being. Whether you’re addressing anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or seeking personal development, Transactional Analysis offers a clear and effective framework for change rooted in mutual respect, clarity, and self-understanding.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the current moment, with openness, curiosity, and without judgment. In my practice, I integrate mindfulness techniques to help clients reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and develop healthier responses to challenging emotions. By learning to tune into thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations with compassion and clarity, clients can cultivate a deeper sense of calm, resilience, and emotional balance in their daily lives. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, or simply seeking more peace and clarity, mindfulness can be a powerful part of your healing journey.
