One of the most powerful things therapy can offer is greater self awareness. Many people move through life on autopilot, repeating the same emotional patterns, relationship dynamics, coping strategies, or beliefs without fully understanding where they came from or how they continue to shape their lives.
Therapy can create space to slow down and begin noticing the deeper layers underneath our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours — including old wounds, shame, internalised beliefs, and survival strategies developed earlier in life. While self awareness isn’t always comfortable, it can become the starting point for meaningful change, healthier relationships, stronger boundaries, and a more authentic sense of self.
In this video, I reflect on my own experience of how therapy can increase self awareness through therapy, why it can feel both confronting and liberating, and how recognising our patterns can fundamentally change the way we see ourselves and the world around us.
If any of this resonates with you and you’d like support exploring it further, I offer LGBTQ+ affirming therapy both online and in person from my practice in Manchester city centre. You’re welcome to get in touch to arrange a free 15 minute introductory call.
