Finding the right therapist can feel particularly important for LGBTQ+ people, especially if previous experiences have involved judgement, misunderstanding, shame, or feeling like you’ve had to explain or defend who you are. Many queer people want more than just a therapist with qualifications — they want someone who genuinely understands the emotional realities of navigating identity, relationships, stigma, and belonging in a heteronormative world.
LGBTQ+ affirming therapy offers a space where people can talk openly about sexuality, gender identity, relationships, trauma, chemsex, self esteem, boundaries, coming out, anxiety, or shame without fear of being judged or misunderstood. Feeling emotionally safe and respected within therapy can make a huge difference to how supported people feel during the healing process.
As both a therapist and a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I understand how powerful it can be to work with someone who not only has specialist training, but who also brings lived experience, empathy, and genuine understanding. My work is informed by a post graduate diploma in Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity Therapy through Pink Therapy, alongside additional training with Gendered Intelligence.
In this video, I talk about how I work, the importance of LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, and why creating a safe, supportive, and non judgemental space matters so much to me.
If any of this resonates with you and you’d like support exploring it further, I offer LGBTQ+ affirming therapy both online and in person from my practice in Manchester city centre. You’re welcome to get in touch to arrange a free 15 minute introductory call.
