Approximately 200,000 people took to the streets of Budapest Pride this weekend, defying legal threats and attempts to silence LGBTQ+ voices.
At a time when LGBTQ+ rights are facing increasing attacks across the world, there’s something incredibly powerful about seeing people refuse to disappear. Pride has always been more than a celebration. It’s a protest, a declaration that we exist, and a reminder that hard won rights can never be taken for granted.
As someone who grew up under Section 28, I know how quickly fear and stigma can become embedded in society when politicians decide that LGBTQ+ people are convenient targets. That’s why moments like this matter. They remind us that solidarity is stronger than intimidation and that visibility remains an act of resistance.
The message from Budapest seems clear: we will not be silenced.
